Military Medal GV Miniature
Instituted on 25th March 1916 for rewarding acts of bravery not sufficient to merit the award of the DCM, it was backdated to recognise acts from the outbreak of the First World War.
In June 1916 it was extended to women - two such awards being made for the Easter rising in Dublin that same year. Approximately 115,600 medals were awarded during the First World War together with 5796 first bars, 180 second bars and one third bar.
Awards were made after the war for service in India, Russia, Africa and the Middle East. This particular replica covers the period 1916-1930 and is die struck in the manner of the original.
