The Italy Star is a campaign medal for British & Commonwealth forces during the Second World War.
Awarded for operational service in Sicily or Italy from the date of the capture of the island of Pantellaria on 11th June 1943 to 8th May 1945. Navy & Merchant Navy: Service in the Mediterranean and the Aegean Seas and operations in and around the Dodecanese, Corsica, Greece, Sardinia and Yugoslavia after 11th June 1943 would qualify. Provided they did not serve subsequently in another theatre such personnel were awarded the Italy Star but not the 1939-1945 Star. Personnel serving ashore qualified under the same rules as the Army. Army: Operational service in the Aegean, Dodecanese, Corsica, Greece, Sardinia, Yugoslavia and Elba between 11th June 1943 and 8th May 1945 qualified. No prior award of the 1939-1945 star was required. RAF: Participation in aircrew service within the Mediterranean theatre, including sorties from the Mediterranean area over Europe.
