The 1914 Star World War 1 Campaign Medal with MONS Bar

The 1914 Star was issued to the British Expeditionary Force and their immediate reinforcements, who crossed into Belgium and France.

The MONS Bar

In 1919, King George V authorised the issue of a bar “5TH AUG - 22ND NOV 1914” for any soldier who came under enemy fire or within range of enemy mobile artillery in France or Belgium between the 5 August and 22 November 1914. This was authorised under Army Order 361. This bar was to distinguish between front line soldiers and those who worked in the rearward areas. The bar is atached directly onto the ribbon.

The 1914 & 14/15 star, British War Medal & Victory Medal are also commonly refered to as Pip, Squeak & Wilfred.

Mounting & Display Options

We have a number of options to mount and/or display your medals. To have your medal/s framed for display, please see our framing options. To 'do-it-yourself' please see our Accessories page. We offer a professional Medal Mounting Service, which can be added to your order by selecting the relevant options above.

Swing Style Mounting

Medals are professionally mounted on a brooch bar using a variety of embroidery techniques and swing freely from the bar. This is the most common for of medal mounting, which produces a handsome finish to your medal or group of medals ready to be worn. The brooch bar has a secure pin on the reverse to be attached to your garment. A Medal Holder is available on which to attach the pin if you wish to protect your garment.

Medal Mounting Court Style

Medals are professionally mounted on a brooch bar using a variety of embroidery techniques. Court Mounted medals have a stiff backing board with the corresponding ribbon running all the way dawn the back of the medal. This is a more formal style of medal mounting which produces a stunning finish to your medal or group of medals ready to be worn. The brooch bar has a secure pin on the reverse to be attached to your garment. A Medal Holder is available on which to attach the pin if you wish to protect your garment.
