EU – EUTM Somalia Miniature Medal

The EUTM Somalia Miniature Medal is awarded for qualifying service with the European Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM Somalia), established in 2010 as part of the European Union's efforts to support peace, security and stability within Somalia.

The mission was created to strengthen the capabilities of the Somali National Armed Forces through military training, mentoring and strategic advice. EUTM Somalia forms part of the wider international effort to help Somalia develop effective national security institutions and combat instability caused by conflict and terrorism.

Initially based in Uganda before relocating to Mogadishu, the mission has trained thousands of Somali personnel and continues to support the development of professional and sustainable defence capabilities.

This miniature medal is a scaled-down version of the full-size award and is designed for wear on mess dress, formal military occasions and veterans' events.

Historical Significance

EUTM Somalia represents an important component of the European Union's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), contributing to long-term security sector reform and supporting the Somali government's efforts to establish lasting peace and stability.
