Court Mounted medals have a stiff backing board with the corresponding ribbon running all the way dawn the back of the medal. Swing mounted medals are sewn to a brooch pin and swing freely. Typically, swing mounting is used for mounting WW1 & WW2 medals. The more formal Court Mounting style is adopted by all current branches of the Armed Forces.
