Following the 1993 medal review, eligibility for the Air Force Cross was extended across all ranks of the Royal Air Force. Prior to this change, the award was limited to Officers and Warrant Officers.
Subsequent awards of the Air Force Cross are recognised by the addition of a second award bar to the ribbon.
